you have picked a game which requires a very good graphic card to run well
allthough you meet the processor and ram specifications, your on-board "intel extreme graphics"are not really good enough
as you said, you can run the game, but it is slow, well that is because the graphics on your laptop are designed for basic use, such as veiwing photos and dvds
even if you updated the graphic drivers ,you would,nt see a difference, all i can recommend is in doom3 options ,go to graphic setup in system and apart from quality which you have done ,try all the other settings and turn them off or set them to low
im afraid thats all you can do,as laptops are not really designed for gaming, another thing you should check is that you have direct 9.0c installed, this is a driver that is avalible from microsoft used for gaming, you can get it from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.mspx,this can make a difference ,if you havent got it ,as xp is only set at direct x 8.0 by default
good luck

Sorry to say this, but youve got no chance whatsoever of getting doom 3 to run on anything other than something like an Alienware or Dell XPS laptop. In other words, Doom 3 is a desktop only game for the foreseeable future as there are virtually no mobile graphics cards capable of running the latest games that are affordable. Specially when using Intel Extreme graphics, they are onboard chipsets and therefore very basic. You want 128 mb standalone graphics card at the very minimum to run Doom 3. A 64mb Intel Extreme gets its memory from the system ram, meaning you have around 450mb left. Knock off 128mb RAM for Windows to operate on if youve got XP and your laptop is then running much less than the 384 the game requires. If you want to play games, consider upgrading to a desktop. Most are capable of running Doom 3 if they have a dedicated graphics card.

has the answer although you may not like it
the graphics on laptops are just not up to playing hi graphics demand games I have tried a couple on mine and upgraded to no avail
a possibility is that your graphics card is actually useing the 64 meg from your RAM you can check this in system
my laptop does this I got a 1Gig upgrade from Crucial.com it has improved working but have not tried it on games yet

The specs are the absolute mininum to run the game. Basically, you can play it, but don't expect a fantastic result... It doesn't have the capasity to run the full thing.
Doom's really only for desktops because it's quite process heavy.

It runs slow because of your graphics. Go to best buy and tell them to change your graphics to Ati Mobility X200 Series or later.

Make sure you are running the least amount of programs as possible - basics only (virus scan, sound/video card, etc). That should help.
