Check the oil cap. It should say what grade to use. Probably 10-30 or 5-30. If you use oil that is too thick, (20-50 especially,) you could prevent the oil from reaching vital parts of the engine and cause premature wear, or cause it to smoke for no reason.

You should be able to check the owners manual that you got with the car and theyll tell you. If not, you can swing by an instant oil change place and ask. Most cars use 10w 40 though, which is pretty cheap at grocery stores and auto stores. :)
