An older and economically depressed neighborhood, that usally has higher crime rates, that is typically populated with lower to middle classed income workers from around the city. Who can't afford to move or live in the suburbs, because of the higher rents and houseing costs in the more modernized, and business booming, suburbs.

Growing up in the ghetto is not a bad thing.
Some people thinks it's HORRIBLE, but it's not like it seems.
The word ghetto doesn't mean "hood rat chicks" and nappy hair.
It's full of people proud to be where they are and people who care.
If you didn't grow up in the ghetto or never lived there.
You don't have any say so on who is or isn't on welfare.
Some people might not have the money to move out the hood.
But if you take a look at their kids, they're doing good.
You can say all you want about these people going through strife.
But they might just be the ones who makes the biggest success in life.
You can also gossip all you want about who shot who.
If you think about it these kids don't have anything else to do.
You might think that everytime you ride throught he ghetto you gone see a lady.
Running around trying to find the father of her baby.
These people might no be living around wealth.
But if you see something wrong don't criticize them, offer your help.
Look into the eyes of the people living in the ghetto, there's a strong powerful head on their neck.
Don't put them into a seperate group, you treat them with respect.
So to all my people living in the hood and the ghetto this goes out to you.

Ghetto is a characteristic that you can't achieve. It just happens. You are ghetto for your attitude, which comes from your actions. And people can tell if your trying to be ghetto, which is not ghetto. Ghetto comes when you have a hard life and you are making through it by selling stuff or finding ways to make money and show your stuff.

The use of ghetto as an adjective means to be low class or inferior. I guess it would mean substandard?
A ghetto is an area where social underclasses live. They may choose to live there, or it may be the only place available to them.

when i think of ghetto..i dont think of a poor person or anything. i just think of someone listening to rap..talks slang..wears big baggy clothes...has a lot of ''bling bling'' . a lot of celebrities act very ghetto,mainly the rappers i suppose. lol

ghetto just means ignorant. It's a person that either doesn't know any better or they do know better but just won't do it.
They curse when they shouldn't; they are disrespectful when they shouldn't be...just loud and ignorant.

live in canada so I don't see too much ...except when watching movies ....of vehicles people do up .....rims that the inner part spins ....cars that bouce .... people who were too much heavy jewlery that looks like it weighs more then themselves...people who have dead cars sitting in the front lawns like garden ornaments...people who hang their cloths(underwear( out to dry when they have a perfectly good dryer ..PEOPLE who can not talk intelligently ...give stupid answers that even my 2yr old nephew )slang etc )can come up with something more understandable ....
