The proper oil for softening ear wax is actually a garlic oil. It is quite stinky, but it works. Apply one or two drops on a cotton ball and place in the ear overnight.

It is a good idea to see a doctor if your problem persits. If you are not dealing with an infection, but blockage of the outer ear canal, and you are seeking a homeopathic remedy then try ear candling. This age old treatments dates back centuries in many cultures. I included a link so you can learn more about it, but try to find a wholistic bodyworker or accupuncturist who has been properly trained to do this procedure. It is typically more effective and less painful than having the ear irrigated at the doctors office.

I am an alternative medicinal therapist and an ex nurse please don't use glycerin. Almond and/or Garlic oil is good BUT if you have a middle ear infection you may make it worse. You must get it checked. An ear infection can spread up the ear canal to the brain (spreading to the meninges) If it's wax a hot water bottle placed against your ear may help. If it was the wind that caused it the chances are you have a bit of inflammation, oil or heat won't help. See your GP.

Yeh, the wind can cause cold in the ear i use to get it alot especially when it was a cold windy winters day, Im not sure that almond oil works but earex is quit good. But it it is really sore then you might have an ear infection so i would have a doctor check it out, as putting anything in it could make it worse.

Any edible oil will do the trick with the wax, but if there is an infection causing the pain (I'm not saying there is, but there could be), you could do with going to the pharmacy & getting some proper ear drops & some advice from the pharmacist. If my ears are ever feeling a bit bunged up, I get the shower head & spray water into them, I don't know wether that's a bad thing but it works for me.

Any oil that you have got in your kitchen is good for losening up the wax in your ear.

At home we have got Sunflower and Olive Oil. We warm a teaspoon up - by dipping it newly boiled water - pouring a bit of oil on the spoon, then tip it in your ear, and then block your ear off with a little bit of cotton wool (this will soak up any oil that comes back out, and any wax that comes out will stick to the cotton wool).

Also make an appointment with your doctors surgery, so they can properly get any wax out.

Best thing for wax in the ear is just hydrogen peroxide.
Do not use any oils at all. Avoid the quacks who try to sell you on the hoax known as "ear candling".
