for a 350 chevy engine you should start by putting the belt around the crank. then run the smooth side up to the left and over the water pump. From the water pump down to the power steering up over the alternator under the tensioner, over the air conditioner then down to the idler pully. The only thing is I cant remember if the idler is on top or the tensioner. Either way on that step it will be the same either just around idler or tensioner.

should be a belt routing diagram on the engine area where the hood front meets the body. If this is a v-belt, then look for the tensioner..that will give you a good idea how the belt runs. OR get a string and run it around the pullys in as many ways possible and find the proper routing by trial and error. also, double check to make sure you have the right belt. be patient. v-belts are fun!
if this isn't a v- belt, then you'd only have 2 or 3 belts to have to work with.

I've Got a 91' Chev. 2500, It's pretty simple to change.
You'll need a 15mm socket prefferably in 1/2" drive and a good ratchet.
There's a bolt that goes thru the tensioner pully (upper left black thingie) that you will need to turn. Not the bolt its self, but you will use that bolt to swivel the tessioner upwords to remove the tension on the belt for removal. It's going to be pretty tough to do. That's why I reccomend a 1/2" drive.
After you manage to get the belt off the alternator be careful releasing the tesion on the tensioner. It's going to move quite a ways and you could hit your hand on the radiator fan housing.
Replace the belt and run it around everything but the alternator.
Pull the tensioner up as far as you can, and carefuly slip the belt over the alternator pulley last.
tada...you're done

You should be able to loosen the alternator bolts and the power steering bolts (if you have power steering).
