Me, I'm stuck in another country and am very homesick for the US.
Soon, I hope...I'll be home.
So, tell me about all the good picnics and firework displays going on.

Thanks "MamaBear".....I could really visualize you sitting on your blanket. Cool!
I was born and raised in Maryland and as a child we always went to Fort Mchenry. I remember some huge firework displays and an awesome grand finale. Ft. Mchenry being the home of the Star Spangled Banner.
Thanks

And a Happy 4th to you, too! I sympathize because I was in Australia for Memorial Day and missed that traditional "summer kick-off" barbecue! I've been overseas several times and always get so homesick for the U.S.!
I'm making my world-famous ribs and then in the evening, we're having a picnic and watching the fireworks near Penn State University. They have a huge display so it should be nice. My daughter is doing most of the work for the picnic and I'm bringing brownies and my son is bringing pasta salad.
Sorry you're going to miss the festivities back here! Have a safe trip home!!

Thank you and a happy 4th to you.My favorite holiday ! I am driving out of state, leaving tomorrow. Early on the 4th, wearing blue jeans, red & white striped shirt and my American flag earrings, I will go to Wakefield, Ma. where I grew up and I will spread a blanket in the park by Lake Quannapowitt. I'll have my CD player with me and will listen to my patriotic CD's while munching a picnic lunch. The parade doesn't start until 5p.m. but there will lots to do anyway. The parade will last for at least 2 hours and then I'll hang around until fireworks start at 9:30. I was only 10 days old when my parents, grandparents, & great grandmother took me to my first parade in Wakefield. I continued that family tradition with my own 6 kids. Now only 1 left at home, my 17 year old daughter, will go with me and this will be my 58th year at this parade. Of course we'll have BIG signs thanking our veterans and military. And we always stand for the flag and ALL veterans and military and give them a HUGE cheer. Sometimes one or two of the military will turn to us with a grin and say thank you but we know we owe them a debt of gratitude we can never repay. My family and I have always been boisterously, enthusiastically, and unabashedly proud of our military and the U.S.A. And at some point, I will go over to the the large glass framed wall in the park that contains the names of those from Wakefield who served in WWII and Vietnam. On it, we will find the names of my uncle and some friends of mine from high school with Gold Stars next to their names. My uncle died on Saipan during WWII, others died in Vietnam. On that day of joyous celebration we will not forget those who served and sacrificed to give us the freedoms that too many in this country take for granted. God bless the U.S.A. and the men and women who are in the military and continue to protect our freedoms. Didn't mean to write a book here. LOL. Sorry I got carried away. 4th of July does that to me. Wish you could be here in the U.S.A but I hope you enjoy the day as well as you possibly can and that you will soon be home.

Well, it's a good time for friends and family to get together for a barbecue, and games, and fireworks. Of course, the best way to celebrate the Fourth, is a Fifth..on the Third.!!!!

I know what it's like. I'm just happy to see that some people still love the greatest country that ever existed....even with all its imperfections. Come back home soon and be safe!

My family and I are going to Kennywood Park near Pittsburgh PA for the day and then watch their fireworks that night. It is our annual tradition. It is supposed to rain, so the park shouldn't be too crowded. We will thinkof you and everyone else who can't be home and will dedicate a fire cracker to you!
