a front wheel drive car has 4 cv joints. one on each end of the drive axles. they keep the axles from getting to much force and snapping or twisting. to tell if you have bad cv joints listen when you turn for a very loud clicking sound if you hear it your cv joint is bad. it is easier to change out the entire axle (about an hours job and about $65 - $75) if you do not change it when it starts to click soon you will not be able to move the car.
