I can picture it now, the lawnmower from H***, zipping all around the yard, knocking down everything in it's path. Flowers, shrubs, grass, everything. Oops, there went Aunt Zoe's flip flops. Oh no, is that Aunt Zoe's dress? yikes, turn off that machine, we don't want to see Aunt Zoe in the buff. Bring back her towel, her sundress.

That's better. Zoe is now wearing a new towel, and she is walking behind the lawn mower, making certain it only mows the proper places.

Ok, real life. The answer is no. There are self-propelled mowers, that have a forward rolling action so you don't have to push it, but just guide it. There are push mowers. There are even riding mowers you can drive around.

If you dislike mowing, maybe you could get rid of the lawn? They use a lot of water, take a lot of time to mow, and there are all sorts of very nice, very low to the ground plants you could grow instead that need no maintenance!

Not quite. But there is a style of mower that makes mowing so easy, you'll look forward to mowing. Four years ago I purchased a 60" ZTR (Zero turning radius) mower to mow my 2 acre yard. Mowing is virtually effortless. All control is managed with your hands. This includes ground speed, turning, stopping, and backing.
A ZTR for a normal size yard (42" cut) will cost around $2,500, which seems like a lot. But with regular maintenance, it should last you for many, many years.
I believe it is Cub Cadet that advertises a mower for the price mentioned above.
