Does anyone else think that the reason we performed so badly was because Sven played players from Chelsea? Terry was awful, Lampard wouldn't have scored if the other team didn't turn up and Cole(J) was average at best. I think an England team without any Chelski players would have at least made the final.

I am an Italian fan, and I think that England overall performance was not what their fans expected. Some of the players you have mentioned are (most likely) too overrated and the system of play chosen by Ericksson was very arguable.
My first consideration is that English fans have always complained about the defensive way of play Italians have... yet now they admire so much the "counter-attack" (like they do in the Premiership with Liverpool and Arsenal).
Then, the key game with Portugal was another Ericksson's flop.
I have to admit that Rooney's red card may have been to excessive and it penalized England in their game (then again, Materazzi's red card penalized Italy too... but Italy won)
I am wondering why Eriksson have kept on the game either Gerrard and Lampard (they both have had an awful day) and he substituted the only player (Cole) that could have changed the game, the only one with some initiative and some clear ideas!
Why wasn't Lennon put on the field when Beck went out?
Compared to the English coach, Scolari have shown a LOT better capacity on reading the game: I am sure that if he was on the other bench, he would have won the game for England, considering the potential of the players on the field.
Basically, more than the player performance, I think England needs a new coach.

Who cleared the ball off the line against trinidad and tobago? JT. Who scored that wonder goal from miles outside the area? Joe Cole.
If Sven had not brought Walcott, a kid with no experience, getting his first international cap before he's even played in the premiership, then we would have had another striker, like Jermaine Defoe, who has some experience. In truth we only had one properly fit striker in Peter Crouch. Rooney still isn't match-fit, and neither was Michal Owen.
Who would you play instead of Lampard, Cole and JT? Sol Campell isn't nearly as good as Terry now, and he and Rio have worked well together. Why change it?

no i dont blame anyone except for Cristiano Ronaldo...hes the real reason why Rooney got a red card...he came out of the blue and just went up to the ref face and start sayin this and that...thats the reason why Rooney pushed him and got himself a red card but England did a great job defendin the goal wit only 10 men and their key players not playin...Portugal didnt score a thing and they have 10 men and their key players also England lost becuz of penalty kicks...thats one of their weak points...so really im proud of them and they did a great job but throughout the whole World Cup they didnt find their spark or anythin and they didnt really work as a team that much...

thats the true reason why they lost...so let's not blame Sven for puttin in Chelsea players...Terry did an OK job and Lampard did a lil more than OK. also J.Cole did more than avarage he did a good job throughout the whole W.C. so overall its not really anyone's fault...its just their luck stopped...really they did play badly throughout the W.C. they got to the quarter-finals wit a lil luck by their side and now its gone...im not sayin that England sucks. they play really good actually and im glad they got that far...GO ENGLAND!!!

I think your wrong and im reporting you lol.

dont decriminate chealsea. tell me who you would put in their places....for terry, Sol Campbell? hes too old....Lampard, Hargreaves???? too much of a defensive player....J.Cole, england has no other players that can play on the left side, and he, and many other people will agree with me, Joe Cole was england's best player in this world cup. Chelsea players were not the reason; without them we would have probably been knocked out earlier.

(i was joking, im not reporting you lol)

Sven wasn't doing his job right, the game could have gone either way to Portugal or England, and this time for the second time since the Euro 2004 it went to Portugal again.

what about Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher from Liverpool?or Wayne Rooney from Man Utd? do you think they played well??? if the team loses - it's every player's fault, not only some of them.

We didn't play bad... The bad choice was to run out of fit strikers with an untried kid on the bench who couldn't be used....
