One important rule is do not shout. "Sure," you say. "How can I shout in a chat room where everything is typewritten words?" SIMPLE! BY USING ALL CAPS AND LOTS OF EXCLAIMATION POINTS!!!! Not only is it hard on the eyes, but it conveys anger, frustration.

Because the people who flamed you have no life. For some reason on the Internet writing in "all caps" signifies yelling. It is a breach of etiquette but so is flaming so don't worry about it but try not to write in all caps unless you intend to YELL. John

Writing in all caps online or in email means that you're shouting your words. It's offensive & also very hard to read.
