Sometimes, shortcuts get pointed at the wrongs things because in the background somewhere the target file got moved. What you want to do to fix your shortcut is to:

1) Use Windows Explorer to find the target file or executable.
2) Right click on the shortcut and select Properties.
3) Copy the Path that is displayed in the address window of Windows Explorer.
4) Paste the copied path into the Target field of the shortcut's Properties dialog box.
5) Click OK.

You should be back in business now.

some programs will stop shortcuts from working by adding an additional extension. For example adding .disabled to the original filename. so if the shortcut was shortcut.lnk then the disabled version is shortcut.lnk.disabled , so by removing the .disabled from the name the shortcut suddenly works again.
