Do you think Congress will do a better job of managing things like the budget if they hear from the public(not special interest groups, but the actual public, the people that pay taxes and vote etc) on more of the issues? Do they have too much autonomy with the Big Magic Checkbook, etc?

Congress has rigged the system so that they don't have to listen to "the public". They don't even care if you VOTE (in fact, the more people that don't vote, the better chance they have of being re-elected). They LOVE low voter turn-outs.

The sitting U.S. Congress is the most corrupt, evil, incompetent body ever to occupy the Capitol Building. In collusion with the Bush administration they have abandoned the U.S. Constitution in favor of their own law of the land. Consider what these evil bastards have done since 2000:

1. Illegally and unconstitutionally invaded another sovereign nation that did not provoke, threaten, or attack the U.S.A.;
2. Massacred tens of thousands of Iraq citizens for no justifiable reason;
3. Tarnished this country's reputation as a world leader and global peacekeeper;
4. Condoned the irresponsible "detention" or 'prisoners' without regard to the rules of the Geneva Convention, and turned their backs when these people were tortured and physically, emotionally, verbally and sexually abused;
5. Turned America into a police state where citizens are presumed guilty until proven innocent;
6. Initiated failed economic policies that will certainly result in a severe economic depression right after Bush leaves office (so that the incoming Democrats can be blamed for it);
7. Put this country trillions of dollars in debt because of some insane, idiotic "war" that happened only for two reasons: 1) Bush wanted to 'get even' with Hussein for humiliating his daddy during Desert Storm, and 2) Big Dick Cheney wants all that oil swimming underneath Iraq's sands so he and his oilmen buddies can get richer and richer and richer;
8. Lied to the American people and leaked information to the press whenever it conveniently fit their agendas;
9. Neglected the needs of America's poor, sick, disabled, aged, disadvantaged, hungry, homeless, and underprivileged while playing 'Robin Hood in Reverse', stealing from the poor and giving to the rich elitists, the special interest groups, lobbyists, and big corporations so - in turn - they can make generous (if not illegal) campaign contributions that keeps the GOP in power;
10. Killed more than 2,500 U.S. soldiers (so far).

Prediction: there will be NO TROOP WITHDRAWALS IN IRAQ until Cheney has a rock-solid, iron-clad arrangement in place (in full cooperation with the puppet government Cheny helped install) to steal all of Iraq's OIL.

These vile, repugnant sub-humans deserve the be tried for treason and - if convicted - should face a public firing squad.

Thomas Jefferson once said: "The tree of liberty must be refeshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." That time is overdue. It's time for a second American Revolution. But until we get off our couch, put down our remotes, and take to the streets to demand our country be returned to 'We the People....' nothing will change.

Politicians know that we're nothing but lazy lobsters lingering in a pot of lukewarm water. Only when it reaches a boiling point will we start screaming!

So they keep us preoccupied with bullshit "amendment resolutions" such as gay marriage and flag-burning (both real menaces to our society). And as long as there's such little oversight, Congress has no incentive to do its job better. They will just keep sucking off the taxpayers' teat, enriching themselves with outlandish salaries; lavish cost-of-living pay increases; excessive expense accounts; obscene health, medical and retirement benefits; and all-expense paid luxury vacations that they call "fact-finding missions" (and buzzed-up, drugged-out, TV-addicted Americans actually BUY it!).

Of course we concern ourselves with "important" stuff like our maxxed-out credit cards; $3.00-a-gallon fuel for our $60,000 gas-guzzling SUVs; Britney Spears' new love interest; Jacko's pedophilia; "low prices - everyday" at WalMart for junk we don't even need; and the latest baseball scores.

Until we take up arms (and the Constitution allows us to bear arms against a tyrannical government) and DEMAND that politicians become public servants, nothing will change.

If we could vote all the crooked Republicans out of office today, they would only be replaced by equally crooked Democrats. We MUST DEMAND that the stranglehold these organizations have on our political system be abolished, destroyed, killed.

We are now trillions of dollars in debt thanks to the Bush administration and a cowardly, contemptible, complaint U.S. Congress. Within a generation, China (our biggest creditor) will decide we've maxxed out our federal credit card, and will very simply come over here and take our assets, our OIL, and all our natural resources. Our grandchildren and great-grandchildren will not enjoy the quality of life we have today, all because we were too damn self-absorbed, materialistic, and unmotivated to do a damn thing about it. All we thought about was our six-dollar Starbucks, our favorite Happy Meal, who would eat the most buffalo turds on "Fear Factor" and which team took the pennant this season. The U.S.A. will become exactly what you see in Haiti and the Dominican Republic today: a two-tiered society where there are a handful of the very, very rich, and (all the rest of us), the very, very poor. A middle class won't exist anymore, and we will, indeed become unwilling members of Oppressed United Taxpayers Revolting Against Government Excesses (O.U.T.R.A.G.E.). If things continue down the slippery slope we're on, our great-grandchildren will be in an 84% tax bracket, having to earn $100,000.00 a year and learn to live on $16,000 of it while the rest goes to the government and its seedy assortment of political curmudgeons.

Can public oversight help Congress do its job better? No.

But public outrage and another contemporary version of the Boston Tea Party might get their attention. -RKO-
