i didn't think that men like you existed... thanks. in my opinion, it has a lot to do with who we grow up admiring, and most athletes, hollywood stars and models are super skinny. most women take a long time to understand that confidence is much sexier than actual appearance. when more men like you speak you mind, i guarantee that more women will come to accept themselves. thank you for being the person you are. =)

Because men put so much emphasis on having thin beautiful girls. No matter what men might think or feel, the female population hears "all men want is a beautiful woman" - even the unattractive among the men it seems. We hear it from our friends, our family, TV, magazines - everywhere.
I think if more men expressed the sentiment of "all women are beautiful regardless of shape, size, nationality, height, weight" we would have much healthier young people in the world today.
Peace!

Because it's being pounded into us that we have to be skinny to be accepted in society. People don't like flab, they like sleek. All the models are sleek, there's no market for overweight models. And even the most cynical of us (myself included) have noticed that the guys always go for the skinny girls. I used to get looked at all the time, by guys old enough to be my father and by those my age. Now when I go out in public I feel invisible. I don't know what it is, maybe because I'm nearly 25 and they don't see a man with me or a ring on my finger, they think there's something wrong with me. But I think it's because of my weight. I graduate high school at 5'3" 130 pounds and looked damn good, no rolls or anything. I even looked up what my weight should have been for that age and height and it was right on. But college was hell and due to the stress my roommates put me through, I turned to food for comfort and even though I hiked and walked to school, I still gained 60 pounds. And now, no matter what I do, I can't lose it. Well, not and have it stay off. It's all about competition. Guys go for skinny girls, leaving those of us who don't have perfect figures in the back corners, like they're embarassed to be seen with someone not perfect. It's all about being seen and social status.

They want to make boyfriends and some are jealous of how someone looks. They might want 2 look exactly like some of the celebs. I really dont care what boys say about me. I am sort of skinny, but not fat and everyone says i should be skinnier 2 b a cool person. Women just dont feel happy and comfortable with their own body. U can ask them, there wont b many other answers.

First let me say that if you truly feel that way, GOD BLESS YOU! Not every man feels the way that you do. There are so many media frenzied people out there that think that in order to be beautiful you need to be skinny. Young girls are brought up seeing their mothers and sisters and friends killing themselves to fit into a size 4, its no wonder that they make themselves sick. We, as a society, need to show our girls that they are ALL beautiful, regardless of what the scale says.

Wow, it's funny how it's so easy for guys to say "hey, why do girls do that? There's no reason!" But if there was really no reason, no one would do it.
Women have TREMENDOUS pressure on them to be thin. I am very thin, I weigh 108 lbs, and I still see images of women all around me who are thinner, and I find myself wishing I looked like them. It makes you think that's the way you are supposed to look, that unless you look like that airbrushed model in a bikini you don't look good in a bikini at all. Of course, women know intellectually that that is not true, but somehow ads and TV shows get under your skin and change the way you think about yourself.
The way to address the problem is not to say "hey, that's dumb, don't do that!" but is to change the way women are shown in the media, to change from a standard of tall and impossibly thin to a standard of average weight. It's something that men don't deal with as much, because there are larger men shown in media outlets (think of "King of Queens" or any of those shows where overweight, Joe-schmo men have beautiful thin wives). Don't judge women who damage themselves to be beautiful, judge the whacked-out standards of beauty that demand it.

cuz they want to be with me, nah, i'm joking..
because the media shows woman that way, skinny, look at all the ads on tv and in magazines; skinny has become the standard for women. Why do all the actresses stay fit in their late 40s and 50s, and the actors, they put on weight? the actresses can't get roles if they don't meet the industry standard.

The media and the commercials persuade women to be skinny because they think the skinnier, the better. The USA is a sad country in this respect. Most people are too fat or too skinny. All is good in moderation.

The media. Some girls are not strong, and they succumb to these triggers that tell them you have to look and feel a certain way before someone will find your beautiful..
I am not skinny, I am healthy and happy, and I pig out on chocolate without counting calories. And I am proud of that.

To put it simple, because we've never seen a fat lady modelling, never seen a fat lady in a commercial, unless it is for some detergent or something to do with cooking, and we've never seen anyone compliment a fat lady on her fatness. Both men and women are influenced by what they see in the public space, so even if women/girls thought they needn't be skinny, men still would (or that's how girls' thoughts go....:)))

Because the media and certain celebrities make it seem like that's the best way to be. If they walked around fat, then all the girls would want to be fat, too. People look to the rich and famous to see how they should be, especially young people. I personally think that everyone should love the body type they have. If you think you're too fat, then try a diet and excercise, but if you know you have big people in your family, then chances are, you're going to be big, too.
