My PC has been infected twice before, and I've been able to remove the viruses myself by going to the Symantec website and using THEIR antivirus scan available on their website to scan my PC, (because the virus completely disabled my AV program). Their AV scan is VERY up to date and can usually determine which virus has infected your PC.

They then have a webpage listing a variety of different virus removal tools. You can just click on the applicable tool and download it to remove the virus. (Hopefully the virus infecting your PC will be listed.)
OR
You can also call Symantec, the phone # should be listed on the website, and they will help you remove the virus for a fee. I've done this before too. It cost me around $70 to do it, but it was absolutely worth it!!! My PC stayed in my possession the entire time, and they walked me through the steps to remove the virus, and the issue was completely resolved within one evening.

Check to see if you have MSCONFIG on your system. Some viruses load via the startup group which MSCONFIG can disable. Disable almost all the start up programs except your virus scanner, regcheck, etc. Then reboot and update your anti virus and then run a virus scan.

If you don't have MSCONFIG find it here:
http://www.perfectdrivers.com/howto/msconfig.html

Another way is to boot into Safe Mode, when Windows is starting press down the F8 key when it says "Starting Windows" right before the screen changes. You should then get a boot menu that says some options, choose "Safe Mode" and see if you can run a virus scan in safe mode.

The reason for this, is that viruses, spyware, adware, trojans, etc all load up and you need to find a way to disable them before you can remove them. If they are in memory they will prevent the virus scanner from seeing them, or prevent them from removing them. Sometimes they reboot the system during a virus scan, or just randomly reboot the system.

Always keep your antivirus programs updated, and make sure you have spyware/adware scanners as well as a trojan scanner. Some antivirus programs do all of them, others do not.

Some viruses will corrupt virus scan software or be undetectable. If scanning with software does not work, you should wipe your computer and start over. Take the restore recovery disks that came with your computer and run them. You don't want to repair you want to start fresh and reinstall windows. It takes approx. 1 hour to get the OS on. Then expect another 2-4 hours of updating and putting your programs back on. Don't forget to burn all your music, pics, and anything you do not want to lose.

You may want to invest in some Anti-Virus software like McAfee or Norton. It is a must that you keep the software updated regularly so viruses can be found when scaning your computer.

Wooh, I can locate virus by myself but I would suggest you to use McAfee VirusScan (easily removes those unwanteds eversince DOS days "Scan/clean C:" up to Windows days, now!) if you dont have McAfee download AVG for free you'll find it good too.

Don't visit those websites that has lots of pop-ups usually those sites is where all the unwanted hijackers, viruses, trojans, worms, scripts etc. are coming from.

If you have plenty of time and you really dont like sloppy registry due to those programs that installs itself automatically, format your hard drive then install everything. (Optional)

That's why I suggest McAfee... why? works really good, better than the rest based on my experience, I am not in any ways connected to McAfee, I am just a satisfied user.

Well if you mean... deleting viruses yourself then it's almost impossible... however... some virus gets deleted...

first go to msconfig and stop from auto start up! > press ctrl+alt +del key and end any suspiscios process.... and delete the infected file or virus...
MOST VIRUS CAN'T BE MANUALLY DELETED... SO MSCONFIG AND KILLING PROCESS TRICK... IS USEFUL ALSO IF DIDN'T WORKED... DELETE YOUR ... (NOT TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES) YOU CAN DO DISKCLEAN UP TO DO THAT AND CUT THE VIRUS AND PASTE IN RECYCLE BIN AND.... RIGHT click recycle bin and choose empty recylce bin...

THATS ALL TO REMOVE VIRUS WITHOUT USING ANTI-VIRUS ... but first you'll need to know where is virus.. or infected.. file sadly only antivirus can do these files scanning their binary codes....

Buy good anyiviruses like Norton, Mcafee etc.
More than one is better.
Install them with Auto Update ON.
Do not use pirated Anti Virus program copy.
Also install Anti Spyware

If you have an antivirus program like Symantec or McAfee use that to scan your computer. If you know the virus research the name and how to remove it. Everyone should have a antivirus software if they connect to the internet on a regular basis.

First, if you have an antivirus software in your PC then update it then run a full system scan. Second, download the software "Ad-Aware" in download.com. That software eliminates existing adware and spyware that is lurking in your system. Lastly if you have a registry cleaner then try to use it, that way remaining registry values that are unimportant are cleared.

you need to know how a virus is coded and os vulnerabilities it exploit.... so it is almost impossible if you are not an expert... but u can reduce the risk by keeping a strict vigil on the running processes ... unknown process consuming a siginficant part of cpu usage is a suspicious stuff you may like to get rid off........ and if u dont want to do it YOURSELF you can go for an antivirus
