I realize what a rainbow is. I'm looking for scientific or medical explanations of why some people can taste/smell color. More than "their wires are crossed"

i believe light has a smell, our brains are just too underdeveloped to reognize it.

From our friends at Wikipedia: "A rainbow is an optical and meteorological phenomenon that causes a nearly continuous spectrum of light to appear in the sky when the Sun shines onto droplets of moisture in the Earth's atmosphere. It takes the form of a multicoloured arc, with red on the outside and violet on the inside. Even though a rainbow spans a continuous spectrum of colours, traditionally the full sequence of colours is most commonly cited as red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet."

So no, you can't "smell" it.

No, you can not smell a rainbow, it only has a visual property. A rainbow is a visual object created by refraction of light thru moisture in the air, normally seen with rain in the area.

no, because a rainbow is formed by the sun light hitting the water particle in the sky, so smelling a rainbow is kind of hard
in case u haven't notice u can never really get close enough to smell it because it isn't solid or has a scent of its own

A rainbow is a form of energy. It is light which has been broken into bands of color by the prism properties of raindrops. It doesn't emit molecules that could be sensed by smell.

white light, like from the sun, what you would see in a rainbow, is a "mixture" of all colors. what you see in a rainbow is a phenomenon of all 7 colors being refracted by a prism, water droplets, etc. good question though.

If theres been a recent thunderstorm you may notice the ozone thunderstorm smell, and sorta relate that to the rainbow.
