The saddest moment was when I was playing a video game called "Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic" and I had this killer Jedi Consular who had gotten to the final part of the game without dying a single time. I was absolutely determined to win without a single death. I had been playing for about 13 hours straight, without even taking a break.
With blue lightsaber in hand, my character (whose name was Jadien) blazed forward at Malak, slashing away heroically in what would turn out to be his final moments. I was too eager for the fight and had forgotten to use one of the critical stim buffs, and this did in fact make a difference. Also, at that exact moment, my optical mouse started acting up, and I could not use force lightning in a timely manner at one of the critical stages of the fight. In short, Jadien died.
And that, most definitely, was the saddest moment in my life.

I have 3 that tie for first
Discovering my mom was killed by my dad, my dad escaped jail and that my step parents met the same fate but reversed and my current parents didn't intend to tell me until i was 21.
Having flashbacks of seeing 13 deaths of best friends.
The last one I don't know how to explain without the use of poetic endevour, so enjoy.
Reigning pain
Why must I hurt
Suffering and despair
Cowardice and cruelty
Envy and injustice
All of these hurt
Grief and terror
Loneliness
Betrayal
Agony of loss
Agony of death
All of these hurt
Why must life hurt
Why must those
Who love generously
Live honorably
Feel deeply
All that is good
Be so hurt
While selfish creatures
Go unscathed?
That is why
Because they can feel
Hurt is the price
To pay for feeling
Pain is not accident
Nor punishment
Nor mockery
By savage God
Pain,
Is part of growth
The more we feel
The more we suffer
For if we can feel beauty
We must also feel the lack of

Saddest moment was the day I discovered yahoo answers and saw the level of idiocy, perversion, low self esteem, cruelty, intolerance, bigotry etc that runs rampant here.

The day my husband, now ex-husband told me he was leaving me after 13 years of marraige. The kicker being he left me for my neighbors daughter who was only 24 at he time he was 40. It broke my heart when he said "I just dont love you anymore"
They ran off together and i thought my life was over, but its been 5 years now. Im over it completely. . I've grown from this experience and my life is changed for the better. now. Im happy and no longer mourning a husband lost. Now i celebrate life as a strong single woman who has alot to be thankful for. Sadness and depression used to overwhem me like crazy..but Im so over that. Lifes too short and I am living again and enjoying every bit of it! Life can be good and its true.."Time heals all wounds"..I used to hate when people said that to me but it IS true!

I couldn't get the cap off this bottle of pop, it was awful; I was so thirsty. Thankfully I was able exchange it for another bottle and that cap came off just fine, still it has left me with a deeper compassion for those who suffer sad moments in life. Thank you for this question.

Whenever I give up.
That moment is always the worst.
No trauma from the past comes close.

When I found out the woman who raised me was not my mother, and that my real mother had died in a car accident when I was 7. I also learned that my real mom had abandoned me and my twin sister when we were 5 months old.

When I told my best friend at a science fiction convention that a friend of ours had died, and he, being already drunk and having had a bad day, went and almost drank himself into a coma. He was hung over for a week.
There are others, but that one still haunts me 10 years later.
