The screen has gone blank although when I connect to the internet I can retreave my e-mails and my photos and videos are still there. I can also send texts throught the internet. Has this happened to anyone else and does it cost a lot to fix?

I have no idea of the Phone, but it sounds as if it is still working..... get someone to call you, you call them etc to confirm this..... You still have Internet access, so it sounds like the phone is OK!
Maybe, battery level does close down the display?..... Recharge and see if the problem is solved!....
It is more likely that you have either turned of the backlight, or reduced the 'time on' period to virtually nothing within the Phones' settings!..... Check manual, and if all else fails try Resetting the phone to the caftory defaults!
If it is broken, and most likely as a result of dropping or a bad knock while the hinge is open, then it's likely to be a break in the flexible connector between the ttwo halves of the phone..... and this is not 'user serviceable'... ie it's going to cost a bit!!
