Actually, this question is more anthropological than evolutionary, since the chicken (Gallus domesticus) didn't exist until its domestication around 2000 BC in Indochina. The first chicken came from the first chicken egg, which was laid by a red junglefowl (Gallus gallus). Whether you argue creation or evolution, the fact that humanity predates and is responsible for the speciation of chickens from red junglefowl should lay the "chicken or the egg" question to rest. From an evolutionary perspective, this answer holds for all species: the first member(s) of any species were the offspring of another very similar species, i.e. evolution argues that the egg always comes first. From a creationist perspective, this answer is anomalous, since all species that predate humanity originated as adults around 4004 BCE, i.e. creationism argues that the red junglefowl came before the red junglefowl egg. .

The egg came first.

The egg would have been laid by a bird very similar to a chicken. Any mutations or evolution that led to the first chicken would have occured inside of the egg. Therefore, it would only make sense to say the egg came first.

Well, I think they came together at once....since no one is sure how anything or anyone came about let's look at the logic of them both being created at one. The chicken was created and already had an egg inside which was immediately laid which hatched into a rooster and thus the procreation of poultry came about. Of course, you did realize that the rooster and chicken committed incest, but since the bible and 10 commandments had not yet been considered it was OK by God.

Well the chicken because God created the chicken and in The Holy Bible it didn't tell if the egg came first so I'm sayin' the chicken.

We started off with an omelet for starters, then proceeded to Roast chicken with all the trimmings. So, the egg(s) came first.

Silly question in Thailand. The first letter of the Thai alphabet is Gor-Gai (Gor-chicken) the second letter is Kor-Kai (Kor-egg) so sorted alphabetically chicken always comes before egg.

This has already been asked about a month or so ago, but here we go again. The chicken came first. God created all animals after he created man (woman).
Proof: When God created Adam & Eve they we not babies, they were grown up already, right? Right. But you already knew that.

The answer is:

The reptile came first, and therefore the egg!

Birds, and therefore chickens, arrived much later.
