Yes I do believe America should do away with the penny. With the rate of inflation, the penny is practically obsolete. I mean, the concept of one cent will still pe plausible, particularly in banking transactions, etc... But the actual penny should be eliminated from circulation, and prices should be adjusted accordingly.

no. I do not want to round up for 6,7,8,9 nor do I want to round down for 1,2,3,4. I want it to be exact. If you get rid of the penny you couldn't pay exactly what you owe. There are millions of pennies collecting in jars in peoples homes. Put on a push to get people to get them back into circulation. The reason for deleting the penny is that it is now costing 0.104 cents to make them because the cost of zinc has gone up In 1996 it cost 0.094 cents to make a penny. Soooo, reformulate and find a different base metal to add to the copper that is cheap..

Hell no! I've been putting change in a culligan bottle for two years now. I finally dumped it all out the other day and rolled them. I had $50 in pennies alone! Keep the penny! lol.

No, how would I get chainge to add up to 5 cents or more LOL.
I NEED my pennys!

They would have to make TAX even like with fives or tens or 25 cents or something like that... they're not gonna change SALES tax anytime soon, so you'll always have an odd ball number like $3.13
;-)

No how is someone suppose to make change if their total comes to say like $3.47. Plus with taxes and stuff they can't really control the prices to come out to end in a 0 or a 5. That is like saying we should get rid of one dollar bills.

Pennies do cost more to make then they are worth but then what would people do if they were paying cash and something costs $12.01? I am interested to see what happens with this.

It would be extremely impractical. Not only would you have to re-figure all the prices for everything, but also the tax rates so that it comes out to a multiple of 5.
