maximum faculty policies enable academics to e mail, buddy, or in any different case touch former pupils. i've got Friended a number of my former pupils. that's amazing to be certain men and ladies you have helped coach which would be doing nicely with their lives. you do no longer point out who advised you in a different way (former coach, chum, guardian, classes important?) the guy ought to have been jealous, or consistent with threat without worry misinformed. on the classes the place I artwork, academics are allowed to buddy former pupils, even though Friending a cutting-edge student is grounds for termination. this could additionally depend upon the age of the former student and the age of the instructor. My suggestion is which you touch the administrator (or college board) and ask. That concepts-set you may get an terrific suited respond.

Yes, at times. Usually after something has appeared in a newspaper or on television, there will be a small flurry of congratulatory calls from former pupils.

I run into them a lot in the streets. They usually remember me and I have a pretty good success rate with remembering them... though I may often forget their names...
I teach adults and I had (am having) a bad experience with one who became a little obsessed with me and had been sending me rather inappropriate e-mails, so I've taken to not giving my students my phone number or e-mail address or any contact information but inviting them to visit the school if they want to meet me again. I guess it's a little impersonal, but there is a professional distance that must be kept - whether we like it or not...
95% of my students have been great people whom I'm happy to see again from time to time. It's one of the nicest parts of the job, actually!

I do not think former pupils contact without a purpose. But surely if they happen to meet they do stop by and show respect to you.

i know of a few teachers i still keep in contact i thank them for their hardwork and efforts if im ever in my hometown, cause i know they rarely are reminded and usually underappreciated. Im not sure if once a year is often but I drop by to talk to the class about whats outside in the real world waiting for them should they choose to not take their education seriously and what doors open with one.

Yes. As teachers we have the ability to change a child's life. So many of my students still return to say hello. Its great to keep up with them and see how their life is going. If students keep in touch with you , you should feel proud that you made a lasting impression in a positive way.

I teach Special Ed. and while I see many of my former students, they don't usually contact me...I did get a call from a mother of one of my former students 10 years after I had him in my class, he had passed away and she wanted me to do the eulogy....That was a tough one, I did it though.

I still see some of my forner pupils. I have one student that I see for lunch every summer. I worked with troubled kids and many of them dropped by my house from time to time to talk about stuff that was going on with them. It all depends on your comfort level and how comfortable you feel with the students.

Not usually -- but I when I lived and taught in the same small town, I would run into many former students, (Usually in the bars - like I said - small town!)
For me, not common, but not completely unusual.
