it's a release for many of us. at the same time it's an escape from real life.
when you're playing a video game, you're not worried about anything that may affect you or consequences for your actions. when you play a sport in real life you still are worried that you may get hurt. or if you hurt your friend that you're playing with, it could put a hinder on your friendship. in a video game you don't have to worry about being too aggressive or even getting for favorite shirt dirty.
not to mention that in real life it take skill for many games we play. in a video game you could be the best even if you can do many of the move in real life.
one of the other reasons is not one many of use would like to admit to. some times we are just lazy.

because real games got boring to some people and video games are more like exciting and have more adventure then real games like for instant
a real game= hide and seek
a video game=halo or ratchet and clank
its far more fun!

video games are much cooler because you can blow up cars,vans,etc, you can be anyone or anything you want. more exciting than playing football. lol
