I definately dont think theyre rude. The midwest is known for being friendly and Chicago is no different. Its a little different then most places because people might spark a conversation with you out of the blue and it will catch you offguard. If thats what you mean by aggressive. Also, about the Christianity thing. The city is truely a melting pot. By all means. There are people from every walk of life there.

Every city has its rude people. But overall, when comparing big cities, I'd say Chicago is the nicest big city around. I don't know what scale you are using to determine "rude", but Chicagoans will stop on the street and help you with directions, will explain how the bus or trains work, will help you pick something up if you drop it and not just step over it and keep going. It's often been described as a big city with a small town attitude.
I've been treated rudely in small towns in Alabama and big cities like London. Rude is all over the place. Even where you live.
As for Catholics, being one myself I can say that the city has a LARGE catholic population of all races and nationalities.

Just moved from the Chicago area after a six month stay there. I found that there ARE some people in the area who were very rude, but they were more than compensated for by the very polite, very friendly people I saw everywhere else.
As far as the number of Catholics, while I didn't take a poll or anything, it seemed that there was a very high percentage of Catholics and Catholic churches in the area.

People are generally rude anywhere you go. Not to say there aren't plenty of good folks in the world, but the rude ones stand out a lot more. It's unfortunate.
For example, look at the post from "onehotmamma jen". She obviously isn't from Chicago, but her answer paints her as a rude individual. They're everywhere.

Part 1:Not at all, you dumb ****. Seriously, we are generally acknowledged to be friendly and polite.
Part 2: Yes there are a lot of Catholics in Chicago. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago was, until recently, the largest in the world. There are also large numbers of members of the other Catholic rites (Maronite, Uniate,Eastern, etc.). At one time, more than 3 fifths of the population of Cook County (the population of Cook County, which includes Chicago) is approx. 7 million.

it is my hometown and i lived downtown for 20 yrs as an adult
It is a large busy impersonal place and if you are not aggressive enough to get a cab you dont get one.
it is not the custom to speak to strangers as it can be dangerous in a big city you can be distracted while you are robbed or taken in by a con man
many , many catholics a very catholic town i am catholic
