here is some thoughts for you!
1) first of all get something you will not be ashamed of.
2) if you are still young put it in a place were if you don't want people to see it then you can cover it up. plus some companies wont higher people if they have noticeable tattoos.
3) never ever put a name on your body of you spouse or girl/boyfriend. that will curse your relationship (i have seen it alot). i am getting ready to put my kids name over my heart.
i have 5 tattoos right now i will not get the long sleeves only short. i have one on my leg, two on my arm and two on my back. i mainly have cartoon characters. i have known people who have gotten naked ladies that within two years wanted it off. so go to your local tattoo shop (i suggest 2 or more and look at their stuff or go on-line to a tattoo site or go buy a magazine) to see what you like. remember it is your body and it will be there forever. so chose wisely and good luck.

Make sure you get a tattoo that you will be happy with later in life. Perhaps something that symbolizes something about you or something that means a lot to you. BUT DON'T EVER GET A LOVER'S NAME!!!! My sister has 2 ex~husbands running around with Sherri on their bodies. Thank goodness for her she named her son after his father so she now refers to her tattoo as her son's name. My first tattoo was a mistake. My sister took me on my 18Th birthday and I picked one out of the flashes hanging on the shop wall. Now it seems outdated and it is not something that would be easy to cover. Unless you get laser removal this is a permanent body marking CHOOSE WISELY.

Make your first one small and discrete - no names of ANYONE (except maybe a family member) 'cause once it's on it's is HARD to remove(laser treatments).then YOU can decide if you want more what with the chance for Hep A,B and C infections (not to mention possibly Aids) from improper sterilization. As well as pain when healing--if you decide to get one go to a REPUTABLE artist--not your buddies !!

One suggestion: DON'T. You patterns and way of thinking will change over time and what you think is cool today, you'll be totally ashamed of years down the line. Get yourself some fake tatoos that you can remove, but don't mutilate yourself permanently because it is very easy to get a tatoo... but extremely hard or next to impossible to get rid of it.

dont drink alchohol before you go, it makes your blood thinner and you will bleed more than normal as the artists is working on you. also, make sure you pick something you will appreciate in 30 years
for the negative answers, ignore them, tatooing is a work of art and a great way to display your love for art

You're about to permanently mark your body and you're asking strangers for suggestrions?
Here's one. Years from now, you'll look back on this decision with regret. Don't do it.
