YES YES YES YES YES YES
The California Disneyland Resort is the BEST. Each room has a Queen or King bed with BUNK BEDS and a pull out bed for a 3rd child. We stayed there for a 3 days on a company trip and that is when we KNEW we would plan our family trip at that hotel. There are a lot of extras that you don't get at other places, and there is something NICE about staying in the middle of Disney row. The SERVICE is TOP NOTCH, and the Bar with fireplaces is soooo relaxing. The restaurants in the resort are THE BEST-- goto the character breakfast, the breakfast buffet is amazing, and the lodge type feel is cozy. Their pool with waterslides is next to none. YES, it's more expensive, but WELL WELL Worth it!!!!

I always stay onsite. If you are actually referring to Disneyland, in California, there are only three onsite hotels. They are quite a bit more expensive than the offsite in the area. There are a lot of extra benefits to staying onsite and it just depends what you prefer. I think the extra cost is worth what you get.
In Disneyland, a lot of the hotels in the area aren't the best as far as cleanliness. So, if you plan to stay offsite, just be sure to take the time to research hotels and make sure you are staying somewhere nice. With Disneyland, the hotels aren't nearly as far as if you went to Disney World. So, staying offsite won't really cause more tranfer time when going to the parks and things, so that isn't as much a benefit. Even the most expensive offsite hotels at Disneyland are less than their least expensive onsite hotels. But, you are a lot further away, usually a mile, so it isn't walking distance, for most people.
For me I always stay onsite, I just prefer it so I know the quality is going to be nice and I will have all the extra benefits. But, your situation may be different.

Which Disneyland are you visiting? No matter which location, staying in one of the Disney themed hotels is more expensive but then of course you know you are buying the convenience of being right there where the magic begins. If you're with young children, enjoy the convenience and keep your sanity by staying in a Disney hotel!
