There are many reasons why a computer would freeze up, so it's impossible to diagnose your particular problem. Some possibilities are: 1) You have too many programs open at one time (even running in the background), and your computer doesn't have enough RAM to support the demand, so your computer freezes. 2) You could have a virus, trojan horse, or some other malware. Run your antivirus and an anti-malware program to make sure you don't have problems. Good free antivirus is available from Grisoft, and it's called AVG. http://www.grisoft.com/doc/289/lng/us/tpl/tpl01#Download A good free anti-malware is a-squared from EMSI, at http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/. 3) You have hardware conflicts going on. If you don't know how to fix these, you'll have to take your computer to a shop. 4) Your operating system is old and corrupt. If this is the case, you'll need to reinstall it. 5) Your operating system is old, and the programs you've loaded are newer and don't function well with your old OS. Again, the cure is to reinstall or upgrade to a newer, better OS. 6) Many other reasons. If none of the above works, take your computer to the shop, or consider getting a new one.

It could be a virus, or spyware.
But maybe your computer is just old, or it's loaded with too many programs.
Try running a virus and spyware scan, uninstall any programs that you don't use, and run a disk defragmentation.
If that doesn't work, think of getting a new one.

windows does that frequently. It is a problem with their operating system I think. macs have a much more secure and smarter operating system and generally do not freeze at all. so I recommend getting a mac if you ever plan to get a different computer.

Cat you need to be more specific here. Please be sure you include your system configuration in such questions so trooubleshooting is easier.
In your case it could be anything from an outdated configuration to a virus. So there is no SINGLE solution. It could be even obsolete registry entires & you could not know.
Try www.download.com & try you luck.
Good Luck
