Hm, it's an undertaking, but if you can assure that your fuzzy will be kept from getting too hot even while waiting on the train and then on the train, it might work. It'll get stressed most likely, mine did once. Started drooling like crazy, but calmed down after a while. Make sure they are legal in all areas you travel and PLEASE HAVE YOUR RABIES VACCINATION PAPERS ON HAND. Keep them with you while you have your fuzzy with you. You are up to date on your shots, aren't you?
Taking a fuzzy out in public you need to have proof that you are.
Let's say someone claims that your fuzzy nipped him/her. If you have proof that you had it vaccinated it will have to be quarantined for a bit until the test comes back and that's it. In the event that you do not have proof they can and probably will kill your fert and test it that way. Don't take that risk.
Make sure you provide water during the train ride. I have a carrier I actually got at Walmart and then bought a Flat-bac* (best bottle I've had, doesn't leak) bottle to clamp on the front. The carrier has a little clip on dish that holds a few kibbles too, but I don't see where you'd need to feed on an hour long ride.

There's no reason he won't be able to deal with a commute like that. You can use one of those little bag type carriers like people use for tiny dogs like Yorkies etc... I used to take my ferret all over in my car. As long as you are in a well ventelated or air conditioned car. Ferrets don't handle extreme heat well. If you are comfortable in the car you are riding in he should be. Just a word to the wise....if you are taking your ferret out into public places, make sure you're doing so in an area that they are legal. I live in the state of California and here, it's not legal to own a ferret. : ( I miss mine!

have you ot got a ferret box?
maybe a small animal basket? the train joourney wont distress him too much... have you got a ferret harness??
i have found that ferrets usually bite if they are startled- or handled wrong....and im sure you already know that the old myth about a ferret not letting go when they bite is usually because if they have thier teeth in your hand and if you are standing up and if they let go its along way to fall.
i once had to collect a ferret from the train staion when it was being shipped from devon to hampshire- the ferret was none too bothered!

my 2 boys have travelled all over the country with ferrets so long as they are in a box or bag they'll be ok,just be wary if you take them out as some people take exception to them ,we were once in a department store and someone complained security asked us to take them out,but they fell in love with them and we were there for over an hour talking to them about ferrets,so we spent more time in the store than we would normally do

You can't take it loose; get a cat carrier and get it used to sleeping in there before you travel. You could even go and sit on the paltform for a few minutes a couple of times to get him used to the smells and noises.
You may have to pay a fare. Just say its a cat! Its safer for your pet than risking getting loose on a rain or at the station.
And play safe; get one of the rigid box type carriers, not a bag.
