One case of the movie being as good as, or better than, the book. The book was a bit bloated with all the Hollywood/Vegas stuff; the movie cut that down to a few scenes.

Overall though, both were excellent.

I liked the book. I thought it was well written and exciting and I enjoyed it. I read it years ago, before the movie came out and I liked the detail Puzo used in describing his characters. It introduced me to a life that I was curious about, like most people, but knew nothing about. When I saw the movie, the characters became real and I saw how wonderful Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro are. Their performances brought those characters to life as well as the unforgettable Sonny as portrayed by James Caan.

In the years past, the book and the movie have become a part of American culture, which is fitting as the movie is probably the greatest movie of the 20th century. Not many movies stand up to part II and part III, but this one has and does.

It is one of the best books(I want to treat it as a book instead of just calling a novel) I have ever read.Even though it was written as a novel, it reflected the contemporary society very naturally .I have seen the cinema also. But the greatness of the book is that it was 'a more visual narration than even the cinema" in spite of the cinema being a masterpiece.
