No, they plan to horde the world's oil supplies and screw up the rest of the world, so their meagre standing would look impressive.

1) US isn't an empire and never will be. We are a republic who contributed the most that any other country contributed.
2) islamics are people who follow islam. Not an empire
"No, they plan to horde the world's oil supplies and screw up the rest of the world, so their meagre standing would look impressive."
Riiight. Thats why oil prices are so high and not an ounce of oil has been stolen from Iraq.
Look impressive? what the hell are you talking about?
"Our intentions are about everyone elses problems, we can set up camp all the way around the globe in 15 minutes , but it takes days to get people out of flooded or disasterous areas(within our country)...that should tell what kind of empire we are and will be!"
Yeah. May be you should research history. If it wasn't for other countrys caring about us we wouldn't even be a country. How hypocritical would it to be for us to say "we only care about ourselves". what if King Louis said that during the Revolution??
New Orleans was warned of this hurricane a week before. You have to understand theres tons of poor people in N.O. It isn't easy for them to get out.
No one expected this to happen.

No, if we did than we would not have given the Phillipines and Cuba their freedom. The US controls some other islands throught the World, but we allow them as much freedom from us as they want. Puerto Rico is a good example of this. They have been having votes on whether they want total freedom or stay under our protection. Also, if wanted to be a great empire, than we would have grabbed control of most of Europe and Asia after WWII. We would have also took Canada away from Britian along time ago and done more aggressive subversion in the Americas than we have done. We have always been more of an isolationist country that has stepped up in the International arena only when pushed too hard.

No, well It could have been en-route for a different Type of government than we have now. Benjamin Franklin devised the U.S. government so it is almost perfect, by establishing not just one House of Government but Two. This eliminates Totality of a single form of government having One say about One thing. There are Parliament Countries. There are Democracy's If prefer the U.S. , and it is a privilege to live here Not a Right to be taken for granted. All countries have had they're Revolution's, but I think this Country is one of the best systems of governed societies you can live in.Roman close, maybe, Islamic,I think not at this point either. Read up on the biography of Benjamin Franklin. It gives you a handle on HOW THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA was started.

the current administration does not have intentions, it assumes that it is an empire. they have assumed the right to impose US will on the world, without regard to any laws other than the law of power. that is classic empire behaviour...
The key pillars of the Bush platform, (AKA the neocon manifesto - http://www.newamericancentury.org/statementofprinciples.htm) are:
- US military dominance
- the US right for preemptive military action
this creates two set of rights:
- US rights
- everybody else
we've seen this sort of thing before.... it's not good
remember that we're gonna be Asia's beyatch within your lifetime... you may think it's cool now but soon enough those will be Chinese rights that trump everyone else
plus with the bush administration you get more permutations of human rights and privileges inside America.
there's:
- the administration's rights
- everybody else
then there's
- market fundamentalist's rights
- religious fundamentalist's rights
- everybody else
and finally
- the environment and world we have to live in for the rest of humanity
whose rights are superseded by all...
if you fall into the everybody else category (like say 80% of Americans) - then you are getting particularly screwed by the Bush's, Dick et Co...
what's really funny / scary / sad / incredibly depressing is that america knew all this when they elected him a second time...

I have been American all my life, and I do not want to take anything from anybody. I'm sure SOME Americans want to take over the world, have all the oil, take your woman, or whatever, but not me. And there are many like me who are NOT predjudiced, or insist that if you come to our land you will be killed because you don't believe the way I do. I do not consider an Islamic empire to be one, whole, group of people united for any one cause. Looks like a lot of tribal fighting to me.

Nation building had been discougarged by our founders.
Our mission in Iraq is not nation building.
It is enouraging the spread of democracy, not encouraging the spread of the country of the United States.

I believe our leaders are trying to keep us safe. That process in and of itself is mired in complexity, power grabbing, political corruptness, need I go on? One thing for sure: where else can a person enjoy their life, be it working, playing, goofing off or criticizing this nation on Yahoo questions. We "ain't" prefect, folks, but we're worth keeping what we have.
