No, if we did than we would not have given the Phillipines and Cuba their freedom. The US controls some other islands throught the World, but we allow them as much freedom from us as they want. Puerto Rico is a good example of this. They have been having votes on whether they want total freedom or stay under our protection. Also, if wanted to be a great empire, than we would have grabbed control of most of Europe and Asia after WWII. We would have also took Canada away from Britian along time ago and done more aggressive subversion in the Americas than we have done. We have always been more of an isolationist country that has stepped up in the International arena only when pushed too hard.

No, well It could have been en-route for a different Type of government than we have now. Benjamin Franklin devised the U.S. government so it is almost perfect, by establishing not just one House of Government but Two. This eliminates Totality of a single form of government having One say about One thing. There are Parliament Countries. There are Democracy's If prefer the U.S. , and it is a privilege to live here Not a Right to be taken for granted. the current administration does not have intentions, it assumes that it is an empire. they have assumed the right to impose US will on the world, without regard to any laws other than the law of power. that is classic empire behaviour...

I have been American all my life, and I do not want to take anything from anybody. I'm sure SOME Americans want to take over the world, have all the oil, take your woman, or whatever, but not me. And there are many like me who are NOT predjudiced, or insist that if you come to our land you will be killed because you don't believe the way I do. I do not consider an Islamic empire to be one, whole, group of people united for any one cause. Looks like a lot of tribal fighting to me.

I believe our leaders are trying to keep us safe. That process in and of itself is mired in complexity, power grabbing, political corruptness, need I go on?
