a mp3 player which requires 1.5 v . I need to make a external battery pack with a ground-how?

thgis is a small mp3 player which hold a double A battery. The battery holdfer inside the mp3 player it ruined ad does not have the connecters any longer. My boiggest concern is the ground. I have already almost melted the thing trying to do this connection with out the ground.
