Be yourself.Do you really like to socialize with everyone? Then go out with friends. But I think you are an introvert like me, so you don't like to be out there wasting your time with small talk and drunks.
Do what you are and you'll be happy. Who says you have to me more social anyway? We are as social as our personality tell us.
Nothing forced is good. Cheer up, have goals in life, foolow them and the rest will just show up...

First of all, accept yourself for who you are. Not everyone HAS to be the center of attention.

But after that acceptance, just go out on a limb and say hello to people. Think of the worst that can happen (really nothing), and think about how you would handle the worst. It's unlikely that someone will be rude to you.

Most of all, be yourself!

depends where you are at social events maybe start out with a friendly hello to somone you don't know and try to bring up topics about work weather sports and such that your interested in and try to make jokes and such people can easily see insecure people who don't talk loudly or don't feel comfortable then it makes everyone worse especially you
