i have the cord connected but idon't see how to connect the adapter.

I guess look for the port or place to plug it in in the back of the computer if you're connecting the printer to the computer, and also the power adapter you plug into the power supply (electrical outlet).... If you need a driver for the printer and don't have a disk that came with it, search online at their website for the driver to download, for example Lexmark.com if it's a Lexmark, or HP.com if it's a Hewlett Packard.

Best thing to do is to go to the manufacturers web site and see if they provide instructions.
HP is really good at providing good tutorials for printer setup.

older printers use a parallel connection, which some computers, primarily laptops don't have. parallel is a long rectangle with a screw one either side. if that's what it is, you need to buy a parallel to USB adapter.
