I'm exactly 38 weeks and I'm pretty sure last night my baby dropped. How long after the baby drops to people usually go into labor??

What you probably need to look out for now is the "Mucus Plug"
That is like a clear-drk brown gel. That means your cervix is thinning out and your body is getting ready to give birth. Usually when that happens, this spectacular moment of birth will happen within 2 wks. Don't travel far. Stay close to home and keep in touch with your Dr.

Good Luck and congratulations. Babies are a true blessing

You are still very early to have the baby. I had something similar at 31 weeks ... I went into preterm labor with the same symptoms. I was already thinning and was 3 cm dilated. As they caught it in time they were able to stop labor with IV and a drug to stop contractions, I had already recieved 1 steroid shot and got my 2nd one the day of labor. They were hoping to get 24 hours I am now 34 weeks and 4 days. My Obgyn, other Obgyn's that were present when it happened, and the NICU doctors were surprised I made it past 24 hours. I'm pregnant with twins so I will be having them early, before this happened my belly had dropped about 4 days before I went into labor, baby A has been head down since 18 weeks when we found out we were having twins, and baby A has been sitting with his head down in my pelvis since I was in labor (they tried to do a 3D ultrasound 2 weeks ago and as he was so far down they couldn't get past his neck as his head is right in my pelvis). Go to L&D and get checked for everyday further they have in you that's 2 days less in NICU, which is worth it cause no one wants to leave their baby, and health risks for baby are still high if they come early. Good luck and get lots and lots of rest, it's hard but will be worth it.

I was at 32 weels when mine dropped. I am still prego though...36wks now. It can be real short or a while before you go into labor. just stay close to the area you plan to give birth in. Good luck.

Each person is different. My 1st child dropped 2 weeks before I had her, she was 1 week past her due date. My 2nd never dropped and she was 2 weeks past her due date. My 3rd dropped 1 week before I had her, she was 2 weeks early. So it is really hard to tell.
