I think it is cause you can ask the celebrities if you can redo their songs. and it's cool cause you can sing the songs you wanted to redo. Their are alot of songs i want to sing and if they say yes then i'll redo them. but you also have to ask them if you can change the sound alittle bit. I'm singing ounk so some songs i want to turn punk, but there are alot of punk songs i'll leave alone.

In one word YES it is OK.
Being a cover band or artist it is OK because first of all you are particularly inspired from a band or artist. And by this way you show respect to that particular band.
In the other side making their songs in different style or making additional things thats a bonus and it will be much intresting to hear it.
I like a lot of bands that actually are not cover bands bui they do covers from the older bands that have insipred them.
For me covers are intresting because they intrested things to hear and compare from original artists sometimes are much better .
One example Listen to the Metallica cover of song TURN THE PAGE.

I don't mind hearing a singer sing a song that is being covered as long as it is as close to the original as possible.I wish I didn't just say that because it make me sound like some kind of song bigot, when I am open minded about most things.

I think it's cool as long as you don't represent yourself as being original.. Like Puffy... I think he's cool cuz he takes other people's songs and what not and mixes them different, that takes imagination ... but people who sing the same songs others did and don't really do much to the song but then try and act like they are the best .. yeah, that's not cool ...

I dont think its too much of a good idea considering if you perform them I guarentee you get boo-ed off the stage almost everytime.
I have seen it happen a lot.
People just dont like cover bands nowdays.
I go to a lot of concerts so I can give you a little advice.

okay not to be rude, and i think it's awesome how you want to turn songs punk but i've always hated people who copy stuff, it's just that it's cool if you can sing or play an instrument, but can't you come up with your own stuff too?

Cover bands are cool. they help calm people down when the real artist doesnt come around anymore. I wanna start an all girl Misfits cover band that rocks hard!

It's a copout. Why not come out with something original? Very rarely do cover songs come out as good as the original, or even half as good.

You don't have to ask to perform them live. You only have to ask to record and sell them. It's ok, if you don't have any original music. I think you get more respect for originality though.
