ok, it wasn't as a cashier but as a waiter, but we see some of the rudest and most disgusting behaviour. Once I was waiting on a large group of people for a 21st birthday and the family was split into two squads, the mother and her boyfriend or new husband and their side, the father and the same sort of crowd. The girl was there with what must have been her only friend in the world. Now I don't say this to brag but I was a good waiter, and my tips were the proof, and this night everything was normal, I wasn't even rushed because they came in late and were the last table in a very popular restaurant, so I was used to being busy. Well the kitchen burnt an order of theirs and it came out a good 10 minutes later, but in a family style dining restaurant that just means they get a little less variety for the first ten minutes. Well anyway the girl was a spoiled little brat and that was enough to send her into a very dark mood. She couldn't remove the condescention from her voice with surgery, she made demands not orders or requests and the front of curtious decency she had on so far was shed, it obviously embarassed the people who got roped into going out on that night including her parents and her only friend. The final straw was when I was cleaning a table next to theirs but I was out of her field of vision and in an room empty but for them she proclaimed very loudly ''I just think he's the worst ******* waiter ever''. The entire group of about 20 people fell silent as I casually finished what I was doing and walked out. I could hear her mother say as I was leaving ''well you just made an *** out your self''. I was used to being berated at times when things went wrong, in a culture where the customer is always right that means that those of us who provide the service are always wrong, even when we're not, but that was the rudest thing anybody had ever done, but looking back I think I feel bad for her

-Huge groups showing up completely unannounced, and then still demanding that their dining experience is perfect and that they still get their food in five minutes
-Acting like everything is the cashier's/food runner's fault when it's either clearly a company policy that we can't control, or the cooks made a mistake, etc.
-Sitting in the restaurant way past closing time, especially when they've already been there for hours and are definitely not still eating. We used to have this group of people who would seriously sit there playing "Scrabble" all night and would stay until about 30 minutes past closing. One lady just sat there reading a newspaper, and one time this group of middle aged women were still there 40 minutes past when we closed...and they were seriously just sitting at their table snapping pictures of each other...go do that somewhere else!!!
-Trying to scam us to get free food...happens all the time. How are people so entitled that they think they can just lie and steal from people, and shouldn't have to pay for their food like everyone else? We had this same lady always calling us and claiming that something had been wrong with her food and she'd even tell us she had already spoken to a manager and he had told her she could have a free meal, and that she'd be coming in a few minutes to get it. Of course, she never could give us the name of the manager she had supposedly talked to, and when we asked the managers about it, it turns out none of them had ever talked to this lady. Eventually she stopped coming though, because this was one case where we didn't keep rewarding her behavior! Since she never had a receipt, they pretty much told her "tough luck".

I'm not a clerk anymore, but many years ago, I went on vacation. When I returned, I was talking to a friend of mine and telling him what I did. Some friends and I went to Vegas, but I am by no means a party girl and the most exciting thing we did was ride a float at the Rio and gamble a little (I won $30 on nickel slots). Well, this woman heard me talking about it, went to the front desk and demanded to talk to the store director. Moments later, I was called up front with my friend. The director was very upset with me and told me he had to give a large gift certificate to this woman because she was so upset at the story I was telling about my torrid vacation and told my director that I was apparently sleeping around, going to strip clubs, drinking, and doing drugs and then said that my friend and I (platonic guy friend) were going to run off to Vegas for a fling. So, I got written up for that. I had been working there for 4 years with a spotless record and had been named employee of the month 3 times! I was furious! The things people will do for free stuff!
There were also the people that screamed "EXCUSE ME! CAN I GET SOME HELP?!" when I am clearly helping someone else and sometimes get between me and another customer or loudly exclaim "I'LL JUST GO TO WAL-MART IF YOU DON'T WANT MY BUSINESS!"
