Be aware before starting that some of the newer HP printers have an integrated memory so even after refilling it may not recognize the cartridge as being viable. You will actually need to cycle through about 3-5 old cartridges to clear out the memory. (all you have to do is install the cartridge then immediately un-install) Do this a few times with old cartridges before installing the refill.

TO REFILL:

Peel the label 3/4 of the way back. This will expose 5 holes. one for yellow 2 for magenta 2 for cyan. Inject 8 ml of each color into the correct holes. Wipe off any excess ink. Roll label back to original position.

Install filled cartridge, clean and align.

Don't refill ink cartridges. They are made to be one-time-use and it will not be worth the effort to refill them. Refills leak, clog and just plain don't work. Just don't bother.

Also, buy the largest capacity ink cart you can that will fit that model. Check the HP website for compatibility information.

You don't, you have to go out and buy a new one. Also check your local stores, some of them will buy back your old empty cartridges and give you a couple bucks towards them. I know that Staples does.

Buy a color refill kit. They are cheaper than the cartidge itself.
