Sure. But you need to add a support for the fan. It's possible for someone handy to do it but you need some tools and some know-how. Make sure they disconnect the power at the breaker box.

You certainly can! Lowes often gives classes that help with general household things like this. Just make sure that if you do not have adequate support from a ceiling joist, to purchase a ceiling fan bracket from your local hardware store. Other things to consider: If your ceilings are pretty high, you may want to consider purchasing a down rod to suspend the ceiling fan farther down from the ceiling, thus providing more air flow. If your ceilings are standard height, then a flush mount will work best. When judging which of the aforementioned to use, be sure to take into consideration whether or not you will use a light kit on the fan, and make adjustments accordingly. (You don't want to hit your head on the light). There are a few minor electrical wiring steps you will need to do, but that's about it. It's nothing major, so you shouldn't need an electrician. Just call your local Lowes Home Improvement Center and ask them about it.

If you can take out the light bulb, and wiggle the base of the light, (meaning the box and the light aperatus in its entirety), then you "shouldnt" do it.
Go to an electrical supply store and buy a box with a rod on each end that screws out and will screw into the floor joists, or studs, (depending if there is a floor or, a ceiling or attic above it).
If you can get to the attic, (meaning this is either on the second floor, or a one storied house), and get to the fixture, you can probably see that its laying on the plaster and lathe boards, (if its an older home).
Now, you "could" put a ceiling fan up, but, if its not "stable", then it will wobble a lot, because its just hanging by the wires and the box isnt really stable being in just plaster and lathe boards.
I wish you well..

Yes it will work. Most fans will have instructions and most everything you need. Make VERY sure the electricity is OFF!!!!!
You can leave the fan lights on and use the light switch to turn on as needed. You can turn the fan off/on with the Pull Chain.
IF you unsure of the weight, you need to go into the Attic to see how the Electrical Box is mounted. IF, it has Boards Attached for good solid support, you be OK. IF, the mount looks like a Bozo Job, then you may need to re-enforce the Metal/Plastic Box with a 2x4 Board. If you lived close to me, I could do this in about 30 minutes if everything there and a 6 pack of beer. 1 1/2 hours if it need support and a 18 pack of beer. Beer must be cold for this to work properly.

Electrically, it will work, provided -
1) You have a (green) earth wire in the ceiling, too.
2) You have a strong enough hook in the ceiling that supports the much higher weight of the fan.
3) You do NOT have a "standard" dimmer for the light bulb (your fan needs a different "dimmer" to control the speed).

Well, your typical ceiling light fixture obviously has electricity going to it, but it might not have a support box for the weight of the ceiling fan
There's usually a metal box which is bolted/nailed/otherwise attached to the wood studs/frame in the ceiling. If there isn't one, you won't be able to support a fan until there is.
Wether you have a support box or not is unknown. You'd need to take the light fixture itself out to find out.

Yes you can do that but you can't just screw it in where the light bulb was - you have to get into the wiring part (above the ceiling) to install the ceiling fan - my husband did it in our bathroom & our Living room. So, I know it can be done. Just make sure you turn OFF your electricity (and not just your light switch) go to your cirucit breaker box (or whatever your house/apt has)& turn it off from there so you don't get electricuted - THAT'S A MUST DO.

Electrically, yes, it will work. BUT... mechanically, no. Ceiling fans are alot heavier and generate alot of twisting motion. So, there are brackets specially made for them. Visit your local home improvement places (home depot, etc) and inquire.
Just removing lighting fixture and putting ceiling fan is dangerous. It could come down on you and seriously hurt you.

No.
I think you would need to make sure that the area could take the weight which may require some additional fixings in the ceiling. You would also need to make sure that it was wired up properly.
It would probably be safer to get a professional to do it.

Absolutely. As long as you have an electrical connection (i.e. that lightbulb on the ceiling) you can add any fixture you want.
You may want to have a professional or any family member or friend who has experience in installing fixtures do it for you.
Good luck.
