You can format any blank CD into either a data CD or a music CD. When you insert a blank CD into a CD writer the software gives you the option to format appropriately.

There are cd burners for stereos (as in, a stand alone unit, not part of a computer). Many of these units cannot burn to data cd's. They can only use the music cd's. Computer cd burners can use either. You get no other benefit by using blank music cd's in a computer burner.

The blank music CD cost you more because a royality was paid to the music industry in anticipation of you illegally copying another CD. You didn't illegally copy another CD? Oh well - you don't get the royalty back.

A data cd is set up for data,NOT music.
The music is set up for music NOT data.

You can use a data cd for music, but your music will sound like crap.
So it's best to use a music cd for music; depending on the quality of the cd recordable will depend on the quality of your music.
Me personally,I preferr memorex, or sony high definition music cd's.
