I take it you're not from around here and haven't been exposed to much American history. The 4th of July, in June, 1776, is when we broke away from bing a possession of England and went from being a collection of colonies and became the United States. The act is comemorated every year on that date and is a big deal to US citizens. By the way, Uncle Sam, if that's who you're refering to as your uncle, didn't come along till later. The name derives from someone unloading crates from a ship, all of which were marked 'Property of the U.S.' As a joke, he began refering to U.S. as Uncle Sam and it caught on. The name became nationally known when the government used it to identify the character you see on everything from postage stamps to billboars pointing at you in the red, white and blue suit. He was originally on a recruiting poster for the military.

"Independence from England. Didn't you graduate from the 4th grade genius?"
Has it occurred to you that people from other countries (you know, those places they speak funny languages and do wierd things developed through their history - u might need to look that up) might post questions on this website? Perhaps if it had, you might have realised that your independance was from Britain, not England. They are not the same thing brainbox.
