well in order for a ref to go to the cup they need to talk the universal language, english. of course the refs know more than 1 and will eventually find communication. plus, with many players goin to other countries to play, they'll pick up the language.

but they mostly communicate with one of the languages of the teams or english

I think they communicate in English. If you look on the FIFA site, every referee knows his mother language and English. I think the players also have to know a bit of English. Otherwise, they communicate using universal hand movements. Yellow and red cards are universally understood, a blow of the whistle means to stop, etc.

WELL MANY OF THE TEAMS ARE SPANISH AND I WOULD THINK A LOT OF THE REFS. SPEEK SPANISH PLUS ENGLISH AND EUROPEAN LANGUAGES , ITALIAN IS VERY CLOSE TO SPANISH ALSO.
