There are countries where it is legalized. The women are regularly tested for HIV, and are even given secure store fronts to operate from. I saw this in South Korea first hand. The women pay taxes, receive regular testing for disease, and are generally are watched over by the police station near by.
I think that despite the taboo, they offer a service. I think it would improve our society to run the sex industry with an iron fist and tax the heck out of it. We could cut out the pimps, disease transmission, violence, the street corner solicitations and increase revenue. Disticts could be zoned so that Grandma never has to see the girls while on her way to church.
The problem is that most people are extremely closed minded. They see prostitution as being wrong, exploitive, and disgusting (and it is) . The men that solicit as being sad sack human beings. The see it as an opening to other forms of vice, and a gateway to negative things infecting the areas they live in. The bottom line is that it is the oldest profession, and isn't going anywhere. Most people aren't willing to face up to the ugliness of things and just cope. Or profit. I don't think that will ever change, as long as humans have the ability to be self righteous.

Who is anyone to judge the next person? Everyone is responsible for their own actions, who knows why people prostitute or strip or whatever..It's a choice, it's their choice! I think prostitution SHOULD be legalized. This way there will be more health checks and they would have to pay taxes since it would be considered a real job. In the end though, I don't think any men or women enjoy prostituting- too many risks involved and they lose self respect. But if this is an opinionated question than let me ask you this: Name ONE thing that is NOT wrong about prostitution??If you can name me one GOOD thing about prostitution, I'll tell you what "I" think is wrong with it!!

Nothing is wrong with prostitution as long as you get into it willingly and not forced or decieved into it.
But I agree. Prostitution should be legal... and taxed. It is the only way many people will be able to have sex instead of being forced into celibacy mostly because of their seemingly unattractiveness in others' view. More importantly, it would greatly reduce the chances for all involved to get a veneral disease... or worse.
Some may object to it on the grounds of being detrimental to marriage or families, but let's face it, legal or not, if you have a good marriage (or a good relationship) the services wouldn't be needed.

All those vice cops would have to start earning an honest living!
Seriously, there is no reason prostitution cannot be legalized. Edit: there is no GOOD reason. The bad reason is stated above. The fact is, when prostitution is legal, it gains the protection of the law against theft and fraud, and public health issues become 99% easier to deal with.

I have no idea. If someone else wants to contract an STD, that's their problem. If someone is dumb enough to have sex with said person without a condom or them both being tested first, that's also their problem. If either people die from said STD, it's called survival of the fittest.
And I don't believe any marriages end because of prostitution. I believe they end because something was wrong in the first place and so said person went to a prostitute.
I have no idea what is wrong with prostitution.

Nothing is wrong with prostitution. As you say, if you don't like it, don't do it, but leave those alone who wish to obtain the services of a prostitute. And prostitution is legal here in Nevada, and there are no social problems here that don't exist elsewhere where prostitution is not legal.

The legalization of prostitution would be a much better idea than it's continuing to be illegal. We could regulate the STDs being transmitted and also think of the taxes we could collect from such an income. Who knows we may even balance the budget. Best wishes

whether legal or illegal, this is the oldest profession on the earth! no one can tell any one that don't go to the whores, but some people womanise to such an extent, that the families are ruined. the malpractices in this are, minors dragged into this, the flesh trade, and spreading of hiv. even if you legalise, you can not control the flesh trade, like spurious liquor, soliciting in public places, and number of other underworld activities. rescued minors again turn to the whore houses, because the families woudn't accept them back. so my dear sympathiser of prostitutes, it's a sociological problem, can not solve in a day!

From a business standpoint, citing the legal Nevada brothels, prostitution as a legal business can present impressively high federal and state tax revenues (as if Nevada really needed the additional help with their gambling tax revenues).
Nationwide legalization of prostitution would greatly boost state revenues, wash out the illegal prostitution sector completely, save many 'working girls' from violent death / disappearance and legalization of prostitution may even sharply decline illegal drug sales and usage.
The revenues generated from such a business can easily offset costs to open state offices to govern/control health/safety concerns and issues connected to legal brothel operations.
Nevada brothel health / safety protocols are strictly enforced; they don't want to face stratospherically high fines, lose their legal licenses and shut down cold.....and lose that multi-million dollar profit. If anything, they've well proven such a business entity is safe enough to branch out nation wide.
But ah: there's the moral questions involved....there's a way higher number of "moral" voters against prostitution (clueless to Nevada brothel operations) and the elected in Washington and those in your state got hired by them; they don't want to lose their cushy offices by voting for legal prostitution in your state.
As it stands today: the chances we'll see burger chain like franchises for legal brothels in America is very very slim at best.

None whatsoever as long as it is properly regulated. I disagree in the enslavement of them (Pimps) and child prostitution. This only goes to prove my point that a service is being provided and should have proper backing. Even when prostitutes are raped they don't get the proper help they need. No sexual health for them either, which is again needed.

There are two states where prostitution is legal - Nevada and Rhode Island - and they seem to be getting on just fine. Rhode Island hasn't slipped into a cesspool of immorality and vice, and as far as Nevada is along that path, you can blame Las Vegas for that - and prostitution's not allowed in Las Vegas.
