Ipod's are mp3 players it is just that they have become so popular that they are placed in a class of their own. Mp3 players are generally devices that hold music files in mp3 format in their memory. There is usually a limit to how much music an individual mp3 player can hold (4GB, 30GB, etc.). For mp3 players you use the USB port to transfer music from your computer to the device. You can go online and dowload mp3 files and transfer them to your device or you can format music off of a CD and transfer it. It isn't very complicated.
Personally, I don't like Ipod's or mp3 players because everyone has one and everyone who has one thinks they are extremely cool.
A few years ago, before the Ipod became a hot item, I bought a minidisc player from Sony which is pretty awesome. It's better than a CD player and an Ipod/mp3 player because there is no limit to how much music you can have (total). On each minidisc I can hold 365 songs and unlike mp3 players or Ipod's I don't have to erase anys songs in order to save space because eventually you will run out of space- I just have to use another minidisc and the chances of my device getting a virus are slim to none (yes, ipod's and mp3 players can contract viruses-computer viruses that is).
It is light weight and takes one AA battery which lasts for months. I've only had to change the battery three times in three years, not to mention the battery was rechargeable. The minidisc itself is coated with shock absorbing coating which eliminates all skipping and it has shelf life of something like 100 years- this means that people 100 years from now could listen to the music on a minidisc and wouldn't have any problem with the quality of music-it would sound exactly the same.
Each minidisc goes for about one dollar (you can fit up to six CD's on one minidisc). The cheapest pack of minidiscs is like $6.00 for five minidiscs- it may cost a little more if you want them in color.

Ipods are made by Macintosh and therefore suck. Other than that, there is no difference, an Ipod is an MP3 player. Ipod is the company MP3s is what the device plays, like every other MP3 player

iPods are MP3 players. It's just the Apple version of them. I have an iPod and I LOVE it. It may be a little overpriced because you're paying for the Apple name. Shop around online and find one you like. I recomment at least 20-30 GB so you'll have a nice-sized catalog of music with you at all times.

ipods are mp3 players. They are overpriced which is the downside but the good news is that they are very easy to use. Other mp3 players can be bought for a better deal but are a bit harder to use.
