poor play of the game...
none of the players had a certain plan on the field just passed it to other players who were blocked or who were not stable to pass the ball to someone on their OWN team..
england played their worst yesterday...because i know england can be better than that. dont u think =)

England lost, not only due to an inability to score on their opportunities (of which they had more than Portugal), but also because they had to play against the referee as well. Was everybody watching the same game as I was? Ronaldo should have been booked at least twice for obvious dives, as should have several other players. Rooney was sent off for pushing, yet at least one English player was shoved by a Portuguese player with no call at all. It was asked recently why the same teams (ie: Brazil, Italy, Portugal, Argentina, etc.) are always the teams to beat at the world cup, and the answer to me is simple: they almost always get the calls to their advantage (Italy's ridiculous penalty kick to beat Australia?!) The referee in the England - Portugal match gave Portugal every possible advantage and by sending off Rooney, gave Portugal a chance against a superior football team who were outplaying them at the time. England may not have scored with 11 men, but they sure as heck weren't going to with 10.

England's loss felt like Germany-Argentina all over again. First up, the obvious fact that Rooney was sent off. And then Beckham's injury. And some bad subsitutions on Eriksson's side: he shouldn't have taken Joe Cole off to replace with Crouch, who can't score for beans, and he should have kept Lennon in case of penalties. And like I've said 2 million times to anyone who'll listen: he should've STOPPED playing Lampard 4 games ago (grrrrr.)!!! Also, Ricardo was absolutely brilliant, Robinson was terrible, like Leo Franco the day before with Argentina. the Portuguese defence was amazing as well, and Scolari definitely have strategy. I'm disappointed that England lost, but it was a fair game, and Portugal played well so no complaints.

Because England concentrate too hard on scoring goals from set-pieces.
I'm Scottish, and usually I'm an "anyone but England" man, but I reckon a big problem was the fact that all the hype and attention was heaped on on Beckham, Owen and Rooney. Without these finishers England's otherwise superb midfield and back line had nothing to play to.

I was totally depressed yesterday because of it, even though I live in the US, I was born in England. Well, Rooney shouldn't have lost his temper like that, they would have had a chance if he hadn't gotten the red card (personally I think that it was kind of harsh, but, life isn't fair, huh?). Beckhan also got hurt (and he resigned from being the captain yesterday too!) :(... England missed some great chances for goals and when the penalty shootout came along, Portugal had their great shooters left while Rooney and Beckham were gone. I hope France CRUSHES Portugal in the semifinals!! I'm not against Portugal, just against their team! lol...

First thing Beckham is overrated.
Now they lost since their best striker/brains on the team, got sent of (Ronney) and they played as a ten man squad. Beckham despite being overrated also went off.
As a result the remaining team was not very adept at penalties.
They have never won a penalty in World Cup History.

Hmm.
1) Because most teams lose.
2) Despite the English media hype, they're only a quarter-final team. They played to their level of skill.
3) Lampard was dreadful. Some solid work from others, but it wasn't joined up.
4) God was telling Ricardo which direction to lean.

england had no support in its fowards. "mr. crouch" was useless. ever since owen left, it was a matter of time the english midfield and defense went down with him.
