It is a bill that is introduced every so often. Some senator just reintroduced it here recently.

It was even carried on Yahoo News!

It really ought to happen- prices today give pennies no real buying power and it costs us money to move and store these things.

It probably will never happen, because there will always be that one dude who charges exactly 99 cents for something and by law he has to give the change. Yes, we live in a politically correct nation, which is why the answer is no. But it is a great idea, seeing that almost 13 million dollars worth of pennies are discarded EVERY YEAR, never to be reclaimed.

They have been trying to kill the penny for years because it costs millions of dollars a year to make them (about 1.2 cents to make a penny) so it would save our government (and our tax payers) money

It all depends on the economy. It could happen in a few decades, but there would have to be large economic changes in the world for that to occur.

I don't think they will because it will upset the economy. They talk about doing every so often but nothing come of it.
