I just have to second the recommendation for Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. It is such a GREAT book. And if you read it now, you'll be ready to read the sequel New Moon when it comes out this September or October.
Uglies, Pretties, and Specials by Scott Westerfeld are good reads too. I'd definitely recommend those.

I love James Patterson because he is so versatile in his writing. You should check out Sam's letters to Jennifer by him and also Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas. Better have the tissues ready for the second book. The Bluest Eyes by Toni Morrison is another great read. Enjoy.

"Manhunt" by James Swanson - the true story of the 12 day hunt for John Wilkes Booth - even though you know the ending of the story, the tale of those 12 days will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat!

Dan Brown- digital fortress
very good book. I just finished it and loved it. It is filled with suspense and is by the same guy who wrote Da Vinci Code. So if you read and liked that then try this one.

I'd recommend The Rule of Four (Ian Caldwell & Dustin Thomason)--it's a good, old-fashioned mystery.
