first of all, the "Certified Mechanic" a couple up from me is wrong about the nozzle size. I have purchased Off highway diesel that was dispensed through a standard gasoline nozzle. The larger nozzles ARE used for filling larger filling spouts including 18 wheeler tanks. Large nozzles are usually on the 18 wheeler pumps at truck stops in fact, and they are not always green. I've seen this in at least 4 states. as far as the Light duty trucks, you can include trucks from ford up to the f-550. Medium duty would begin when the frame and chasis size gets bigger.

Diesel is marketed in two forms. Highway (over the road), and agricultural. The highway version of this fuel has a lower sulfur content, thereby decreasing emissions. This is the fuel you want to use. It is a little more expensive than the high sulfur fuel but, if you put the other in your vehicle and are subject to emissions testing, you're busted! There are two ways to distinguish the difference; first, the pumps are well marked and secondly, the nozzle on the high sulfur fuel pump is much larger. It is an obvious difference. One nozzle looks like the ones at the gas stations except it has a green handle, the other is about twice the size. It will only fit in "open" filler necks.

It could be. Anything with a GM Duramax or Chrysler Cummins engine could be considered high quality light duty diesel. Also the Ford Powerstroke.
