I have played football a lot and I never had need to spit anything. In reverse - I always wanted to make more saliva and swallow it because I needed more liquid

Coz all the energy that they use creates a chemical effect in the mouth which creates flem and then u spit 2 get rid of it

if u're an athlete, u'll know..when footballers have been running around the pitch..they will get tired and some fungus will be started to unsettled them..hence they will spit it away rather than swallowing them..
