In Greenland and also in other Scandinavian countries it is VERY common, very COMMON to live with someone and not be married. In fact so common they have children and live as a family. Just like Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. In American, there is such a stress to bind everything into official law. Who cares. Are you getting married because it's the thing to do? If you want to live together for years and years then do it. People may ask, so when are you getting married? Who cares!! Like the other guy said, marriage in America is not taken seriously enough that's why marriages fails. Don't be pressured by a number of pressure yourself into getting married into a certain age. All of that simply doesn't matter. Have children do whatever you want but don't let other people pressure you into following a mold or the "norm" that is out there. Remember other countries are so much more relaxed with this stuff. We as Americans, in general are so uptight.

In today's type of world, especially in America, Marriage is not taken seriously any more. There are more divorces in America every year. When you and your partner think the time is right, make sure the time is right. Don't rush and get married just because you live together or because other people are doing it.

It seems more people are waiting longer or not taking the plunge at all. My wife and I lived together for three years, and felt that marriage was a good option financially and professionally. Besides, when you luck out and find the right person, it adds to the bond.

3 years get engaged. Then about 4 get married. Because the women gets sick of giving the milk for free. She wants some papers to prove the man is hers.

I live with my BF (seven years)
We do want to get married but not any time soon..
We refer to ourselves as "common law marriage" because we have an amazing little boy.
He refers to me as his wife and I refer to him as my husband ... if and when the situation permits...
all in all our situation is totally working out. there is a lot of love between the three of us.
WEDDINGS ARE OVERRATED AND EXPENSIVE!!
