I just purchased a 1994 Ford Mustang GT for very cheap. The body is in real good shape. It currently has a Crazy Horse 302 engine(this engine does have some leaks and problems that will need to be fixed) in it but the previous owner put a GM trans in the car so it shifts bad(a place called TransAdapt will make a GM trans fit a Ford engine). I will be replacing the trans no matter what but the concern is as follows: I have a 460 sitting around the garage that I can spend a couple grand on rebuilding and i will need to reinforce the body and do extra things to ensure it is ok, should I spend the money to rebuild the 460 or should I stick with the 302 it currently has and buld the hell out of that? Anyone's opinion is greatly appreciated. FYI my dad is a mechanic of 23 years so I do have someone with experience helping me out with this.

Talk to your Dad, it sounds like he would know the best since he has first hand knowledge of the whole situation.

In the late 60s I had a Comet Cyclone. I built a 427 similar the on used in the Shelby Cobra. It was a disappointment overall. While the straight line performance was gut wrenching, the damn thing wouldn't go around a corner for $hit. The engine was just too heavy. I did a tremendous amount of beefing the front end but still had alignment problems. In short, if it was me, I would stay with the 302, unless all you were interested in was a 1/4 mile car.

Good luck on your project.

BTW I made a lot of profit on that car. I actually got every penny back that I put into it and then some. A kid with money just HAD to have it. The same thing might happen to you so do what you think is best.

Give it up. It's going to cost more than this P.O.S. is worth.
