You expect people you know to simply take your s*** and still be cool with you.
A stranger, you don't really know how they'll react; especially if they are someone you hope to establish a good rappore with later on. At the very least, you are afraid of the uncertainty as to how they will respond.
Two sayings summarize this pretty neatly:
"You always hurt the one(s) you love" and "Familiarity breeds contempt"

I think we are comfortable with people we know than with strangers, I would yell more at my husband or mother than at my friends I don't know why I do that because these are the two people I adore more that life itself. Sometimes my friends annoy the crap out of me and I would love to punch them but no I just let it go and bite my tongue, well most times

well i dunno about you, but yelling at someone who is a total stranger would seem very odd to me. you dont know them and they dont know you, therefore making it hard for them to do or say anything to you to make you mad enough to yell at them. So I dont generally go around randomly yelling at someone i pass by on the sidewalk or in the mall or in the car next to me. You make yourself seem a little psychotic by doing that and are risking the chance of being locked up in a straight jacket in a little padded room. so yes, i do find that i yell at family and people i know a whole lot more than i yell at the typical passerby on the street.

Most people feel more comfortable around people they know and are able to express (yell at) to them easier than others that they do not know. Not knowing how a stanger may react.

Yes, I've yelled at my girlfriend, my brother, my father, etc. But I've never yelled at my boss, my co-workers, my friends.
