It can effect how well the team performs. More money, means more investment in developing young players and turning the raw talent they have into skills. Better facilities, better domestic leagues, better coaching - all add up to a better national team.

Soccer is a very inexpensive game to play which is probably a reason why it is so widespread. That's not to say that money doesn't play a part when it comes to fostering the best players, advanced training techniques, coaches and having a fan base affluent enough to support large professional teams that enhance the sport even more.

Like so much else money is a substantial variable in this sport.

The naturalized citizen factor plays a part. If there's a choice, the very best players go for the established football country, which is usually the wealthier one.

Good or bad, it does make for a gorgeous French side.

It doesn't its just population size mostly, more players in your country the more chance of having good footballers living there ;)

Clearly not. If there was the USA would win.

Footballers don't come from university teams either, so theres no link to education there either.

Apparently not so much. We can't get past group play here in the USA.
